Former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci said Sunday he believed there were people in the United States administration seeking to "eject" President Donald Trump as he does not belong to the political establishment class.

The former Wall Steet tycoon was pushed out following a profanity-laced phone call with New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza which he said was "mischaracterized".

His firing capped a tumultuous period within the Trump White House.

Scaramucci said he "disagreed" with Trump's statement, but that such differences of opinion would likely do little to shape the message coming out of the White House.

A former Wall Street financier, Mr Scaramucci was sacked from his job at the end of a chaotic 10 days which started with White House press secretary Steve Spicer resigning. "I think he needed to be much harsher as it related to the white supremacists and the nature of that, I applaud Gen. McMaster for calling it out for what it is - it's actually terrorism".

"With the moral authority of the presidency, you have to call that stuff out", he added.

Scaramucci described Trump's chief strategist as a "snag on the president".

"The whole thing is nonsensical", Scaramucci said. It's not serving the president's interests. He's got to move more into the mainstream.

Scaramucci said during the interview that he accepts that what he did was wrong, but emphasized that people need to move on and focus on the president's agenda.

"It's his decision, but at the end of the day, the President has a very good idea of who the leakers are inside the White House", said Scaramucci.

"He's not a racist but I think that there's no need to go in that direction when you have this phenomenal legislative agenda", Scaramucci said in a Facebook Live interview with ABC later Sunday morning. "I think you're seeing a direct line from what happened this weekend to those choices".

"He likes doing the opposite of what the media thinks he's going to do".
