Donald Trump likely to withdraw from Paris climate deal

The statement follows speculation that President Donald Trump may soon announce US withdrawal from the Paris global agreement of 2015 to reduce climate-warming carbon emissions.
Although Trump said this past weekend that he was still considering whether to remain in the pact, Axios reported this weekend that it's already a done deal. That's according to a White House official, congressional officials and others briefed by the White House.
"After the G7 [meeting], the word was put out that six countries were on track, pursuing the objective of the Paris Agreement".
"Climate change presents both business risks and business opportunities".
"Climate change is undeniable", Guterres said in his speech at New York University Tuesday. Trump needs to keep this one real.
He said he will strengthen North-South, South-South and other partnerships to implement the Paris Agreement.
News of President Donald Trump's expected decision to pull the United States from a global climate deal has led to a swift and strong reaction from the United Nations.
Supporters of the climate pact are concerned that a USA exit could lead other nations to weaken their commitments or also withdraw, softening an accord that scientists have said is critical to avoiding the worst impacts of climate change.
A U.S. pullout would be disappointing but the European Union stands ready to take global leadership on the issue, European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic said in Brussels.
Meanwhile, influential Republican Senator Ted Cruz yesterday urged the US President to withdraw from Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
"I will make my final decision on the Paris Accord next week!" he tweeted on the final day of a Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy at which he refused to bow to pressure from allies to back the landmark 2015 agreement.
In addition, the agreement does not even meaningfully decrease global temperatures, he said.
The back-and-forth in the Trump Administration over whether to stay part of the Paris agreement has triggered an outpouring of opinion and lobbying, perhaps most of all from corporate America, which has strongly supported the accord.
Trump has proposed to amend the agreement, with his administration officials reportedly telling lobbyists and European diplomats that the United States will withdraw from the climate pact unless it secures concessions for the fossil fuel industry.
Trump later said on Twitter that he would announce his decision over the next few days.
"Fortunately, many US states, cities, and businesses are not letting this opportunity slip away and are still taking action, but it is too early to tell how much they can close the gap created by the Trump Administration".
On Wednesday, a White House official said Trump is indeed expected to withdraw the US from the accord, but may use "caveats in the language" when the time comes - leaving open the possibility that the decision isn't final.
White House aides have been divided on the question of staying or leaving the accord and had been deliberating on "caveats in the language" as late as Wednesday, one official said.
Trump's predecessor, President Barack Obama, enacted the deal without U.S. Senate ratification. And considering that the United States is the second-biggest global emitter, that may well prove the bigger deal.
Jil Tracy, R-Quincy, had hoped that efforts at a "grand bargain" in the Illinois Senate would end the budget impasse. The new measure requires voters to affirm they are eligible to vote and gives them the option to opt out.
