Ormond, who worked as a youth coach at Newcastle United in the mid-1990s, has been charged as part of Operation Tide, Northumbria Police's investigation into non-recent child sexual abuse in the sporting community.

Ormond is the first person to be charged as part of Operation Tide, which was set up late a year ago to look into allegations of child sex abuse at football clubs in the North East.

It follows an investigation by officers from Operation Tide, set up by Northumbria Police to examine allegations of historic abuse in football.

Now aged 61 and living in Newton Abbot, Devon, he will appear before Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Friday, June 9.
