Molly Hill was jailed in the US after authorities believed she was trying to illegally immigrate
19 May, 2017, 20:47
There were no return flights to Australia on that day, so Ms Hill says she was taken to a "federal prison" where she was frisked, made to undress in front of an officer and "squat and cough". They had planned to spend an extended period of time together. She meant to stay for 88 days, and had quit her job prior to flying, but had a tourist visa, as well as a return flight.
She even quit her job so she could spend a relaxing three months with her American boyfriend.
Hill said she was attempting to visit her American boyfriend, but was interrogated for six hours and sent to a detention centre upon her arrival at Honolulu airport. "In the end they were convinced I wanted to immigrate illegally because my diary had notes like "going away drinks" and "last day at work", things I got in order before expecting to be away for 3 months", she wrote in the unbelievable Facebook post.
"U.S. Customs and Border Protection acted with respect, integrity, professionalism and according to current federal law when Molly Joan Hill, an Australian citizen, presented herself for CBP inspection at Honolulu International Airport May 15", said a statement from CBP to BuzzFeed News.
"Then I was provided a prison uniform and to add insult the officer gave me a size S bra and size L everything else". They started asking me if my tattoos were gang related'. Officers then handed her a blanket and a brown paper bag with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich inside, and hustled her into the women's prison.
Officers in the prison read Hill's file and told her she was unlucky and "you shoulda fell in love with a Canadian".
"The next morning it was my birthday".
"I tried to sleep, but couldn't help hearing my bunkie drain our toilet and chat to her boyfriend upstairs through the toilet pipes".
The next day, her birthday, she claims she was awoken by someone shining a flashlight at her, saying she was being released.
"I got changed (strip, squat routine) and was handcuffed again".

"The reason I travelled was to spend time with him", she said.
Hill said she and her boyfriend had "discussed" marriage, but were not planning to Wednesday during this trip.
When asked by BuzzFeed News why she was traveling with such documents, Hill said: "Those documents are always in that folder at home, I have my current vehicle loan info and reference numbers etc for anything I might have needed to sort out during my time away".
