The state-run Anadolu news agency said Friday the warrants against the nationalist Sozcu newspaper's owner and three others were for committing crimes on behalf of the network of USA -based cleric Fethullah Gulen without being members.
An Istanbul court issued on Friday arrest warrants for four journalists at a daily newspaper over alleged links to the Gulen movement, a judicial source told state-run Anadolu news agency.
The Anadolu news agency said the warrants against the nationalist Sozcu newspaper's owner and three others were for committing crimes on behalf of the network of USA -based cleric Fethullah Gulen but without being members.
Publisher Burak Akbay, reporter Gokmen Ulu as well as executives Melda Olgun and Yonca Kaleli are accused of making propaganda on behalf of the Gulen movement, which the government pinned the blame on for the July 15, 2016 coup attempt.
Sozcu is a staunch supporter of the secular legacy of Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and a sharp critic of Turkey's president and government.
Ulu, who reports from the western city of Izmir, was later detained by police and officers searched his home, the state agency said, after Olgun had been taken into custody earlier in the day.
