Deadline reports Suicide Squad director David Ayer is in early talks to direct the upcoming Scarface reboot
19 May, 2017, 21:52
Ayer steps in for Antoine Fuqua, who couldn't fit it into his growing schedule.
Ayer's Warners/DC tentpole Suicide Squad grossed $745.6 million worldwide past year, and his credits include Fury and End Of Watch. The movie will be set in Los Angeles and will incorporate many modern elements into the mix.
The 1983 version of Scarface nabbed $65.9 million at the worldwide box office which was a modest haul while the film was on its way to becoming an iconic title filled with dialogue which would not soon be forgotten. It will star Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, as the bad immigrant made worse.

Five minutes later he made amends for that spurned chance when he doubled India's lead with a goal from inside the box. They nearly doubled the lead in the 59th minute when Aniket rounded the keeper but failed to convert into an open goal.
And who better to capture that than director David Ayer, who grew up in East Los Angeles, served with the US military and was a street cop? He wrote the screenplay for Training Day.
The studio is eyeing to release the reimagining of the classic gangster pic on August 10, 2018.
Ironically, the only thing giving anyone any hope for this project is the fact that Universal gave the script over to several other writers following Ayer's initial draft, and the version that will now purportedly be shot by Ayer was crafted by none other than the Coen brothers. Ayer is now in post production on Netflix's fantasy cop movie Bright, which stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
David Ayer is also set to follow up Suicide Squad with Gotham City Sirens, which has Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn.
Dylan Clark is producing via his Dylan Clark Productions along with now-Netflix film boss Scott Stuber and original 1983 producer Martin Bregman. Anything is possible with DC.
