Ford told its employees this morning that it plans to cut 10% of its salaried workforce worldwide, or about 1,400 employees as the automaker prepares to enter a period of declining USA industry sales.

Ford (F) said Friday it plans to invest $350 million into a MI plant that builds transmissions, a move that will create or retain 800 jobs.

The transmission will be built as a new, advanced transmission for front-wheel-drive vehicles, created to be more fuel-efficient.

Ford said it expects to begin adding jobs at the end of this year, with the majority coming next year and in 2019.

Ford shares rose 1 percent in trading Friday.

"We remain committed to American manufacturing and investing in our people and facilities", said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, The Americas. "Even as the industry's largest employer of hourly workers in the United States and biggest producer of American-made vehicles, we believe it is important to continue investing right here in our home market". That investment created 500 new jobs.

Last year, the No. 2 USA automaker announced it was investing a separate $1.4 billion in the Livonia transmission plant near Detroit.

The new transmission will share software, design elements and manufacturing processes with the existing 10-speed transmissions. "The addition of these 800 jobs will add job security for the plant's hardworking men and women, and support for the surrounding community".

The plant now employs about 1,800 people.

The attorneys general cited Trump's own words, quoting him saying he was willing to let the health care law "explode". The litigation could become moot if Congress passes new health care legislation to replace the PPACA.

The plant employs a total of about 1,800 people and makes transmissions for the Mustang, F-150 and other vehicles.
