United Will Testify At House Hearing

Malita Javier | 21 Abril, 2017, 20:00

No one will lose their job over an incident which saw a United Airlines passenger violently dragged from a plane, the carrier's CEO has announced.

Listing it a "system failure" at a conference call, CEO Oscar Munoz said said that this was a true learning opportunity and would ultimately prove to be a watershed moment for our company, Xinhua news agency reported.

He said the airline will have more to say later this month after it finishes a review of its policies on overbooked flights.

Munoz repeated his apology Tuesday to Dao, other passengers on the flight and the rest of the airline's customers.

White House pushes uncertain bid to revive health care bill
A White House source said they could potentially have a vote by the end of next week, though they put the chances at 50-50. Without those "cost-sharing reductions", insurers warn that they will have to sharply raise prices or leave the markets.

The company has faced a heated backlash from customers, policymakers and the media after video footage surfaced of one passenger, Mr David Dao, being dragged from a United Airlines flight that officials falsely believes was overbooked.

This is published unedited from the IANS feed.

"The flight 3411 incident, while undoubtedly a public relations disaster, will most likely not materially affect United's medium- to long-term financial and operational performance".

Dr Dao's lawyers have taken preliminary steps to begin a lawsuit against United Airlines and the city of Chicago, which operates O'Hare Airport. His lawyer said the 69-year-old man suffered a broken nose, concussion and other injuries when he was removed from the flight.

United Airlines says there has been "concern" from its lucrative corporate clients in the wake of negative sentiment generated by the leggings controversy and the infamous "re-accommodation" of Dr. David Dao. Then he noted that the board of United Continental Holdings Inc. has supported him.

In that spirit, Munoz said that from now on airplane crews traveling as passengers on United flights must be booked 60 minutes before departure.

And some U.S. politicians have called for a total ban on overselling flights.

"It's really too early for us to tell anything about bookings and in particular last week because it was the week before Easter, that's normally a very low booking period", said United President Scott Kirby.

The couple "repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seating which they did not purchase and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats", United said in a statement, adding "They were asked to leave the plane by our staff and complied".
