Sharks' approach won't change for Game 2 vs. Oilers

Galena Nuncio | 21 Abril, 2017, 21:51

The Sharks generated 13 shots on goal on the power play in six opportunities, including Joel Ward's early second period goal.

When they last met, the Sharks were outshooting Edmonton 32-9 over the final 40 minutes and overtime in Game 1.

San Jose Sharks' Martin Jones (31) and Brent Burns (88) react as Edmonton Oilers' Zack Kassian (44) celebrates his goal during second period National Hockey League playoff action in Edmonton, Alta., on Friday April 14, 2017. Even the long-slumbering Mikkel Boedker and Jannik Hansen were strong, as was the checking line of Chris Tierney, Timo Meier and Marcus Sorensen, which generated several good scoring chances.

Vancouver got a goal back from Tryamkin to close out the scoring.

One possible factor in the Sharks' current lack of success on the power play is the absence of center Joe Thornton, who has been day-to-day with a knee injury suffered April 2.

Connor McDavid has shown he's going to be very tough to contain, but if any team is equipped to do so, it's the Sharks. McDavid has been brilliant with Four goals and four assists in fives game against the Sharks.

UK lawmakers overwhelmingly back June election
Opinion polls put the Conservatives - who now hold 330 of parliament's 650 seats - way ahead of Labour , who have 229. The gap between the leaders' satisfaction ratings is bigger than any since at least 1979.

The Sharks were 26-3-1 when leading after the first period this season.

The Sharks continued to apply pressure throughout the third, and by the end of regulation time, were outshooting the Oilers 36-17 - including a staggering 16-3 advantage in shots in the final 20 minutes.

"We have enough experience in this locker room to handle the playoffs", he said.

He says they got into penalty trouble.

"Now we know that once we get that lead we can lock it down, and we know what it takes to play that way", said Talbot. "Guys just played comfortable (this time), played more of our style of game", he said. Oilers coach Todd McLellan said he later talked to Klefbom and the defenseman told him he was OK.

After almost 11 years, the Stanley Cup playoffs returned to Edmonton on Wednesday night. Players who struggled mightily down the stretch as the Sharks squandered the nine-point lead that they held atop the Pacific Division on March 15 suddenly came to life, as if resuscitated.

Durant optimistic of playing in Warriors' Game 3 at Portland
Stephen Curry backed up Durant by scoring 29 points while Draymond Green had 19 points with 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 blocks. The two also combined for nine turnovers (Lillard with four, McCollum with five) in Game 2 after giving up seven in Game 1.

"At this time of year there is always another good team that gets in your way so it's not going to be handed to you, you have to go earn it". He has not gone more than two games in a row without a point. "There's a lot of newness to both organizations". The pair were skating and pressing the play all night, and they teamed up on the Sharks' first goal when Donskoi bulled his way to the net with a spin move before dishing to a waiting Ward for a power play marker.

It was a pretty drastic turnaround for the Sharks, who had won just once in 25 games all season when trailing after two periods. "He is looking really good this season".

Couture had been ramping things up over the course of the last week, and went through a more physical practice Tuesday to get ready for the playoff opener.

The din grew louder when Milan Lucic gobbled up a rebound off a shot by Mark Letestu and blasted it past Jones with 2:53 left in the first period.

The Sharks will not have the last change for the first two games of the series, but that won't stop coach Pete DeBoer from putting defensemen Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Justin Braun out there against the line of McDavid, Maroon and Draisaitl as often as possible.
