Man arrested over Borussia Dortmund team bus attack

Irune Rengel | 21 Abril, 2017, 20:01

April 21- Police in Germany have charged a man suspected of being behind Tuesday's bomb attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus but have ruled out terrorism.

The office of Germany's chief prosecutor confirmed Friday that a 28-year-old man from Russian Federation was detained over the recent attack on a bus transporting players of the Borussia Dortmund FC, TASS reports.

Financial motives are now thought to have been behind the triple bombing on the Borussia Dortmund football team last week, which happened as the team made its way to its home stadium for the Champions League quarter-final match against French team Monaco.

The suspect is accused of attempted murder, inflicting serious bodily harm and causing an explosion, the prosecutor's office said.

"Someone who buys put-options speculates on the value of shares dropping". He'd booked rooms at the hotel for two time periods, both of which spanned match days.

They revealed he had bought a large number of so-called put options for shares of the football club.

Enrique forlornly turned to Paco Alcacer from the bench as the host played with four forwards for the final half hour. The Colombian then had another shot turned behind by Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

"We are working on the assumption that the suspect is responsible for the attack against the team bus of Borussia Dortmund", prosecutors' spokeswoman Frauke Koehler said on Friday.

The German attorney general explained: "In the event of a massive decline in Borussia Dortmund shares, the profit would have been multiplied by the provisional calculations".

Dortmund's share price did fall from €5.73 on 10 April to €5.61 after the attack on 11 April.

The 28-year-old suspect was arrested by the German GSG 9 elite counter-terrorist unit on Friday morning, near the university town of Tubingen, the Federal Prosecutor's Office (GBA) confirmed in a statement.

But Islamic studies scholars voiced "considerable doubts" about their authenticity, they said.

Metal pins fitted to the devices - 70mm wide, 6mm in diameter and weighing 15g each - were found 250 metres from the site of the explosions.

"Those options were running until June 17, 2017 and were bought with the ID of the hotel L'Arrivee (Dortmund's team hotel)".

A letter, found near the crime scene, appeared to claim responsibility of the attack in the name of Islamic extremists.

During check-in, the suspect reportedly rejected the first room offered to him because it did not have a window pointing facing the road where the explosives had been installed.

The fact that, aside from Bartra, "no others were wounded or even killed, was - as we know today - exclusively due to huge luck", said the statement from the club, which plans to step up security by employing GSG 9 and other elite police veterans.

FC's Raf Honigstein says that Borussia Dortmund's Champions League defeats were tainted by the attack on the team bus.
