Second seed Novak Djokovic fell 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 on Friday to David Goffin at the Monte Carlo Masters to join a growing list of high-profile upset victims.

But he refocused to win at the fifth attempt when Djokovic, who had been given a time violation moments earlier, hit a forehand into the net.

Goffin's big chance looked to have eluded him when Djokovic earned a break of serve in the opening game of the deciding set, but the Belgian pegged his opponent back at 5-5 to pave the way for a tense finale.

Cilic, the 2014 U.S. Open champion, seemed to be in command when he broke at the start of the third set.

He rode on the momentum in the third and broke Goffin to take the early advantage.

Earlier, Spanish claycourt specialist Albert Ramos followed up his victory over world number one Andy Murray with a 6-2 6-7 (5) 6-2 defeat of Croatian fifth seed Marin Cilic. But the Spaniard rallied to set up a semi against Lucas Pouille of France, who beat Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-0, 3-6, 7-5.

Pouille reached the quarterfinals at the U.S. Open and Wimbledon a year ago in his breakthrough season.

The 29-year-old had never lost to the Belgian in their five previous meetings and won their only other encounter on clay at Roland Garros in 2013.

But he showed no serious damage after falling into the courtside advertising hoardings, improving to break Goffin's serve in game four as he went on to level.

Ramos-Vinolas needed 2 1/2 hours to win, but could have got there faster after leading 5-3 in the tiebreaker - only for Cilic to level the set score with a volley that only just landed in.

Cuevas was poor in the first set against Pouille, winning no points on his second serve and failing to save any break points. He soon broke the Serb for the second time in the set to take a 4-1 lead.

Pouille offered an explanation as to why he lost his way after a one-sided first set.

Ann Coulter vows to speak at Berkeley despite cancellation

Pouille stepped up his game and a cross-court backhand gave him break point, which he took when Cuevas sank a backhand into the net.
