United changes crew-booking policy

Malita Javier | 17 Abril, 2017, 00:40

John Slater, a United vice president, said bumping passengers to accommodate airline employees happens infrequently, and that federal guideline requiring rest for crew members made it necessary to get the employees on the Sunday flight to Louisville.

Under the change outlined in an internal April 14 email, a crew member must make must-ride bookings at least 60 minutes prior to departure. Adding that the change is "one of our initial steps in a review of our policies in order to deliver the best customer experience".

The policy change is meant to make sure incidents like the one earlier this month "never happen again", the spokeswoman said.

Dr. Dao's lawyer, Thomas Demetrio told the Chicago SunTimes said his client was not just missing his two front teeth when he was violented dragged off his flight in Chicago but also his luggage. When nobody offered, the airline randomly chose passengers.

"Our flight attendants helped a customer who was stung by what appeared to be a scorpion on a flight last week", United said in a statement. "What they are trying to do is make sure that that plane leaves with every seat filled without the need to inconvenience everybody and it works most of the time", Harteveldt said. According to video taken by passengers, Dao was repeatedly asked to get off the aircraft by law enforcement and told them they would have to drag him off the aircraft. "No one should ever be mistreated this way ..." Two other officers have been placed on leave. "We have committed to our customers and our employees that we are going to fix what's broken so this never happens again".
