The Times, in collaboration with ProPublica, reported that after analyzing reports from lobbyists and interviews with ethics officials, it appears that at least two of Trump's appointees in the White House may have violated ethics rules.
The announcement comes days after a group of watchdog organizations sued the Trump administration in NY federal court in an attempt to compel the White House to release its visitor logs, which Obama opened up in 2009 after facing a similar court challenge from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, one of the three organizations involved in Monday's suit. "The Obama administration agreed to release the visitor logs in response to our lawsuits, and despite the Trump administration's worry over 'grave national security risks and concerns, ' only positives for the American people came out of them". Americans had to work hard to get Obama to voluntarily disclose the names of White House visitors - there were multiple lawsuits involved - and the Trump administration is now effectively erasing that work. "Americans simply deserve to know who has access to the president and who is working to influence policy at the highest levels".
The logs will be available for request by public, press and scholars five years after Mr Trump leaves office.
However, visitor logs for White House agencies, such as the Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Trade Representative, may be released under the Freedom of Information Act.
Under Obama, such records, which were published on a White House-maintained website, were typically disclosed 90 to 120 days after the visit.
This decision, which the administration says will save taxpayers money while cutting down on security and privacy risks, has drawn fast criticism from open government advocates.

But for now, the leases are confined to California (U.S), which hosts about 34 hydrogen fueling stations. Other than being largely silent, the experience wasn't too different from driving, say, a Honda Accord.
The White House is not the only meeting location that watchdog groups are concerned about.
Trump entered office pledging to "drain the swamp" and combat corruption in the nation's Capitol.
Such records catalog when information is submitted to the secret service by an individual who lacks permanent credentials, according to CNN Politics. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington brought the suit.
