Canadians have held vigils in solidarity with the victims of Sunday night's terror attack at a mosque in Quebec City.

Donald Trump called Trudeau to express his condolences and on Monday, White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters that the Quebec shooting was "an awful reminder of why we must remain vigilant".

Six people died and eight were wounded in the rampage. Problem is, the accused shooter, Alexandre Bissonnette, is French-Canadian, and the Moroccan-born Canadian man was a witness.

"Make no mistake, this was a terrorist attack", Prime Minister Trudeau said.

Trump said heading up HUD is a "big job, that's not only housing, it's mind and spirit". Presumably, he knows that those other people are dead.

FOX News, however, simply provided updates on the situation, instead of deleting their original tweet and it was this that caught the attention and raised the ire of Canada's Prime Minister.

The university student charged with killing six Muslim men during evening prayers at a mosque in Canada was known for far-right nationalist views and his support of the French far-right party led by Marine Le Pen.

One suspect is in custody over Sunday's shooting at the Islamic Cultural Center in Quebec while another has been questioned as a witness. One of the men was arrested at the scene, and the other surrendered without incident after calling the police to tell them where he was, police said.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to NBC on Monday afternoon that Bissonnette is the sole suspect in the shooting, though police initially apprehended two suspects.

Police say they received reports of shots being fired at the mosque just before 8 p.m. when many had gathered at the building for evening prayers.

Condemning the attack in a centre of worship and refuge, Mr. Trudeau said Muslim-Canadians were an important part of Canada's national fabric and such senseless acts had no place in the community.

"To the people who were injured, to the people of Quebec City, and all Canadians, I say rest assured that we will get to the bottom of matters".

Ms. Purchase said the "false and misleading" tweet dishonored the victims "by spreading misinformation, playing identity politics, and perpetuating fear and division within our communities".

He said that all nations have a "duty" to confront such violence "viciously" if necessary . That's what I do. "I fix things.
